Empowering Torrance’s Education Future

Discover Tony’s priorities for enhancing TUSD students’ educational experiences and community involvement.

Safety

Providing a safe environment, both inside and outside of classrooms.

Examine the current policies that are in place and update them to reflect today’s environment and make sure our students are safe at school and in classrooms.

Promote psychological safety by making sure all students feel safe inside bathrooms, locker rooms. Boys will use the boy’s bathrooms, locker rooms; girls will use the girl’s bathrooms, lock rooms and all others will use designed bathrooms, locker rooms.

We need to do everything we can to keep our students safe on their campus, which very well could include improving perimeter fencing, surveillance, and adding metal detectors.

Life Skills

Integrating practical life skills into existing curriculum to prepare our students for today and the challenges of the future.

Today’s students differ significantly from those of ten years ago, which means we need to adjust our existing curriculum to align with the modern world.

We must include courses covering topics like financial literacy, banking systems, personal finance management, and communication skills – including interviewing techniques, email writing, public speaking, and more.

We should also guide curriculum back to academic pursuits.

Teachers’ Housing Plan

Advocating for a portion of a TUSD property sale to be dedicated specifically to teachers’ housing.

Torrance Hamilton Adult School is on the market as a surplus property. Rather than allowing this valuable asset to be completely sold off to developers with no stipulations, we have a unique opportunity to advocate that a portion of the development must be dedicated specifically to teacher’s housing.

Today’s educators in Torrance face significant challenges when it comes to finding affordable living options. With teacher salaries not keeping pace with rising housing costs, many talented individuals are unable to secure homes or condominiums within our community. This not only affects their quality of life but also has broader implications for our schools and students.

By proposing that the developer allocate a percentage of the new project towards affordable housing specifically for teachers, we can create an attractive environment for skilled educators who are passionate about teaching our children. Providing accessible housing options will help us retain current staff and attract new talent, ultimately enhancing the educational experience in Torrance.

Let’s seize this opportunity and work together to ensure that our teachers have access to affordable housing solutions right here in Torrance. Investing in our educators is an investment in the future of our community.
